wooden rings

Description

Always looking for new things to make.. new ways to use wood. Well, I started to use cyanoacrylate, it is not a new glue but it is one that is used less in woodworking. That may change, I recently purchased some that is formulated for wood and it really is 'the stuff'. Anyways.. I was using a hand plane to trim a few small boards for box making.. I wondered what would happen if I wrapped a shaving around my finger and glued it up good. It makes a ring that is really tough! I grabbed several other boards and made shavings of walnut, oak, pine hickory, cherry... I tried to shave mahogany, cedar... they would not make a nice long shaving though it might have been the grain direction..
It took a while to get a system, now what I do is put on a rubber glove, wrap the shaving around my finger one loop.. then a drip of glue which is water thin, as soon as that grabs I continue wrapping and drop a little glue in every turn or two. I even got 'advanced' and used a contrasting wood shaving over the first. Then I rough shape the shaving into a ring and dip it right in the good stuff. I dry those then refine the shape further and re-dip. A problem i have is that part of the rubber glove is in the inside of each ring, I'm thinking a wax coating might help that, the other issue is I can't reliably get a size. Still, the rings are kind of neat and I am wondering if this is a wooden product worth pursuing.

I've had good luck with Elm and Mullberry.
